About Us
TP Griffiths & Sons incorporating Caradoc Price is a well respected, independent family firm of funeral directors which has served the community of Merthyr Tydfil since 1900.
Through three generations this established business has provided the care, compassion and skills necessary to support families through what is a highly emotional time.
Back in 1900, on North Street, Penydarren, DJ Walters opened up his Funeral Directors and this is where the business was established, the business grew from strength to strength in the following years, forming a reputation in the town of Merthyr Tydfil which stands as strong now as it did back then. During the 1950's, DJ Walters, son-in-law, Tegwyn came into the business with an edge for outstanding professionalism, when DJ Walters retired in 1964 Tegwyn took over the running of the business, and the sad loss of Mr Walters in 1969 the business was re-branded under the family name; Griffiths, and T.P Griffiths Funeral Directors was born. The business then operated from Brynhyfryd Street, Penydarren and the business still maintains a close link with that address. Tegwyn was later joined in the business by his two sons, Keith and Gareth.
Meanwhile, in Dowlais, Caradoc Price, had established Caradoc Price Funeral Directors, a business so too renowned for their sincerity, and professionalism. After the death of Caradoc Price, his family decided it best to sell his business and thought of none other than T.P Griffiths & Sons, whom to take over his legacy.
On February 1st 1985, T.P Griffiths & Sons, and Caradoc Price were incorporated; owned and run, by Tegwyn and his two sons. 'T.P Griffiths and Sons, incorporating Caradoc Price' operated from Rectory Close, Dowlais, which is where the company remains. Since then the company has continued to grow, providing a service dubbed as excellence; and the presence of the business in the community of Merthyr Tydfil highlights this. The business is now run by brothers, Gareth and Keith who between them have over sixty years experience in the industry, providing families with the highest standard of care and compassion in a time of need; this the company is proud of.
Over the years there has so too been developments into memorial masonry, and the establishment of Cefn Coed Memorials, located opposite Cefn Coed Cemetery. In addition to this, there has development of a satellite office on Brecon Road, opposite St. Mary's R.C. Church and more recently, there has been further expansion with the acquisition of Harris and Jones, operating from opposite Pant Cemetery.
In 2013 the company underwent massive redevelopment, and is proud to announce that their Funeral Home in Rectory Close has been totally redesigned to cater to the needs of you; the customers. The redesign features a new, much larger service chapel equipped to extremely high standards, and improved Chapel of Rest facilities.
Keith and Gareth would both like to thank the community for their continued support, stating, "members of the public are warmly welcomed at all times, and staff at our funeral home at Rectory Close are on hand to give advice."
